Visit to Abruzzo Am hoping to visit Abruzzo in the summer as it is a part of italy that I have not been to before Understand that the house prices in Abruzzo are some of the cheapest in Italy? Long term we are looking at buying a house but as the exchange rate with the UK pound stands at the moment that is put on hold for a year or so - so we need a cheap house to rent for a month or two Where is the best place to base ourselves to get the best picture of the area? If it is in the country we will need to hire a car - last year when we were in the south of Italy this was expensive - is there any cheap way to do it? If we visit regularly each year was looking at the possibility of buying a cheap car and garaging it for our next visit - but understand you cant buy a car unless we are residents? Can anyone give me any advice or help? Was hoping to meet someone during the visit to discuss peoples experiences and possibly geet some ideas on the Italian way of life Help appreciated Pete
Pete, glad you are considering visiting the area, particularly after the earthquake. The abruzzo tourist board are one of the most active that I know and really push their area, I would suggest talking to them about prices and where to invest. In any event, if you rent something coastal, at least you will easily rent it later if you need an income. I'm sorry I dont know about car hire...all the companies will stick it to you a bit price wise, so your best bet is to use a price comparison site for such a thing. The other option, you might want to consider bringing a car from the UK and driving down...its not as bad as it sounds and you would have a nice detour through France on the way. You would need to plan the itin carefully however and ensure you have some good stop offs booked, but you sound like the entreprenuerial type who could do that. Good luck anyway!
Can give you information about the Teramo area if that is one in which you are interested. Abruzzo Villas
