I admit I don't know much about the healthcare system in Italy. What is it like? Does everyone have insurance, perhaps through their job in most cases? Do you still have to pay a lot when you need treatment?

For EU Citizens or residents with an EU health card, all emergency treatment is free.

For Non Emergency treatment, you just pay a small ticket charge. (around 35 Euro) if you are a registered on the Italian Health system.

For others, I'm sure you will need some kind of health insurance.
