    Growing your own Chilli Plants.

For the first time i'm attempting to grow my own chilli plants this year. I have 2 different type.

    Pugliese and Calabriese

The Puglian plants seem to be doing rather well and are about 5cm in height. I have been told that these grow to a height of around 60cm so i will need to re-pot them soon.

The calabrian plants however do not seem to being to well. They are about 1cm in height and dont seem to growing at all.

I planted both types at the same time. (April) Has anyone any experience on growing chilli plants and what i can do to help stay healthy?

Just an update to this thread.

My Puglian plants have produced very well and in the last few weeks the chilli's have changed colour to a beautiful red. Tried the first batch this week and they are nice an hot!

My calabrian plants however have produced nothing so far and are still very small in size.

Perhaps its the climate here in the north of Italy but it has been quite hot over the last few months and the sun has been shinning most days! (Been away for a while but the plants have been looked after by a friend.)

Anyone have any experience with Calabrian chilli plants?

Well its not my personal experience but one of my friends is dealing with export of Calabrian chillis, his shipments mainly head towards Australia...I am not sure, I think his item is mainly used to produce some sauce.

Good luck to your farm, better take good care of it who knows, maybe it would lead to a very successful business. Chili plants are somewhat in need they play a great role in the food industry.

I must admit that I know nothing about chili plants. The name just makes me think about chili beans, and that's what I assumed this was. Honestly, I have a very brown thumb.

Good luck I have heard that the weather is excellent for growing them in Italy, the heat and humidity is just right.

I'm not familiar with chili plants but I do agree that growing our own vegetables in your garden is a good thing as it will lower the cost of food consumption.

Congratulations on your succesful growth! I've never tried to grow chili plants before, but it sounds like it might be fun to try it some day.

Well I really haven't tried growing chili plants, and is currently thinking of growing some after reading your topic, I just think that it's a good way to relieve stress somehow. :D

I don’t have an experience on growing chili plants but I did grow my own radish when I was in elementary. The satisfaction is not about how many vegetables you are gathering but the fact that you are successful at cultivating and harvesting it.
