Best Italian Internet Service Providers I have recently been having trouble with my italian isp. (Sipportal) Sometimes i switch on the computer and i have no internet access. These problems are my isp as it is not the computer or router. I called customer services one Friday night and explained that i was having problems and they said i needed to call the technical support number which is open from 8 - 13 then 15 -1800 hrs Monday to Friday. They asked me to call on the Monday morning. I did not of course as the internet was back up and running by then but it made me think about changing isp as i cannot wait more than 48 hours to speak to technical support. Im looking for some suggestions and your experiences with italian isp. So what italian isp do you use? How do you find their support? Is the internet connection reliable?
I'm really boring, and use Telecom Italia's 'Alice Flat' adsl service. I suppose it has been "down" for about 24 hours total in a period of eighteen months. So not too bad in my opinion. I long ago gave up trying to get any sense out of their phone/internet support, waiting for their server to work again (which it always has done) seems a less stressful option to me! Your Siportal - who is that from? La Sip was what we all called it before it changed its name to Telecom Italia.
sipportal or should i say siportal. Their website is Siportal.it - Sorridi sei su internet I have also found that its just best to wait. things return to normal in the end. Touch wood, things have been running well for the last week. 24 hours downtime in 18 months is good. i have heard of so many nightmare stories with telecom italia that why i stayed away from them. Im keeping my options open and hopefully the wifi network in Italy will grow within the next year or so as i much prefer wireless.
Partly because I subscribe to the "keep it simple, stupid" school of thought, and partly because Infostrada managed to shaft me beyond anything TI could dream of, and partly because friends on Tele2 (? think that is what it is called) are under orders never to phone me from their grim echoey lines...I choose to suffer Telecom Italia. I have heard of 'internet horns' - dunno if this is wi-fi: Marc on ItMag uses it I believe.
This thread is quite old but interested to hear the latest updates in 2011. Is it better to have a mobile internet or a fixed line internet? I am with Tiscali at present and dont seem to have many problems with them!
Thanks for sharing that link with us. 4G or WiMax in the way forward for mobile internet. I took a look at the site and there services are interesting but seem expensive compared to standard internet prices in Italy. I found this Italian WiMax provider ( http://www.ariadsl.it ) who seem to offer better rates. Has anyone used any 4g service?
